As I write, my son should be in the air over the Atlantic Ocean flying towards the United States. After several cancelled flights, it is hard to believe that Paul is finally leaving the middle east and the awful Iraq war behind. I'm not holding my breath yet (I really am holding it!) because I haven't received official army confirmation of his status. I'm flying to Colorado tomorrow (slight change of plans) to welcome my soldier and his companions home. My heart aches for the families of the five American soldiers killed in a roadside bomb blast today. It's difficult for me to celebrate my son's homecoming in light of the 600 American men and women who've lost their lives in Iraq. I vow to never forget and I'll pray daily for their families.
