It's Good Friday and Paul should be home with his wife and litte daughters now. it will be a joyful, well-deserved homecoming. The road from Iraq to Idaho is long, dusty and fraught with dangers. Nine days ago Paul arrived at his fort in Colorado from Kuwait. I met him there, and we spent 4 days together, re-bonding after his absence in the war. We ate, we drank, we chatted and we silently enjoyed his return, while relaxing in the Ramada Inn room that we shared in Colorado Springs. It was a father/son time, but more importantly it was a decompression period from the toils of war, and a time for thanksgiving. Yesterday, Paul drove from Colorado to Idaho to re-unite with his family (a fourteen hour trip). I imagine, at this writing, that the four of them are curled up together, in a ball on the couch, under a blanket, feeling the love radiated by each other's beings. It's the closure of one chapter and the beginning of another. The warmth, the security and the love of one's hearth and home is a gift from God. I pray on this Easter weekend for the safety of our troops and the comfort of their families. I'm a grateful dad!
