"Congress brought twin bills, S. 89 and HR 163 forward this year, entitled the Universal National Service Act of 2003, "to provide for the common defense by requiring that all young persons [age 18--26] in the United States, including women, perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." These active bills currently sit in the committee on armed services." Mandatory military service for America's youth in the prime of life?? Are my precious grandaughters faced with a draft in a few short years? Why haven't the President, Congress or the Media discussed this issue publicly, with The American people? Is this another "Patriot Act" ram-rodding? Surreptiously, our freedoms are slowly disappearing under President Bush's "secret" administration. Like bat, in a dark cave, his policies can't stand the sun's rays and the scrutiny of bright lights. As usual, I have more questions than answers. To re-institute the Draft, we must have a national and public dialogue, involving all Americans and not just the elected, who generally, poorly represent us. Their nether world doesn't even closely resemble mine and that of the majority of Americans. Let your voices be heard loud and clear my friends!!
