What fine line separates us from barbarism and inhumanity? How far must we travel from a civilized state to reach our primordial roots where bloodlust, revenge, torture and death reside? How does a young soldier get caught up in the shark-feeding frenzy of humiliation and torture of prisioners of war? How is it possible for a middle-class teenager from the heartland of Iowa, to strut in front of the camera, showing the peace sign, while arrogantly placing a foot on the back of a naked Iraqi prisoner who is obscenely stacked on top of other naked prisioners? I only have questions today. No answers. I'm ashamed for my country, about these, and other acts of inhumane treatment towards prisioners. It's a blight on America's already low-credibility in the world. One horror story from the press negates a thousand acts of charity and good will. Our country's humanity, her survival, her very soul depends upon how she treats others. We must take the high road. The world is watching and view is getting uglier day-by-day.
